SUMMARY:Early Onset Type 2 Diabetes: Recognising Risk and Responding Early in Primary Care
DESCRIPTION:This session explores the rising incidence of type 2 diabetes in younger adults and the unique clinical challenges it presents. \n\n\n\nWe’ll review key risk factors\, clinical features\, and red flags that differentiate early-onset T2DM from later-onset disease. \n\n\n\nParticipants will examine why early-onset T2DM is associated with faster progression\, higher complication rates\, and increased cardiovascular and renal risk. \n\n\n\nPractical guidance will be provided on early identification in primary care\, effective initial management strategies (including lifestyle\, pharmacotherapy\, and addressing psychosocial factors)\, and how to implement personalised follow-up plans that prevent long-term harm. \n\n\n\nSpeaker: Tracy Kirk – Director of Education at the Primary Care Respiratory Training Centre and the Primary Care Diabetes Training Centre.

SUMMARY:Dermatology in a Nutshell Wirral
DESCRIPTION:IMPROVING SKILLS IN DERMATOLOGY THROUGH EDUCATION & TRAINING  \n\n\n\nAccording to the RCGP skin conditions are the most common reason for patients to present in primary care\, and around one in four patients visit their GP with skin problems each year! However unfair you feel this might be\, you need to be able to think coherently about not only potentially making a diagnosis\, but some sensible treatment strategies after that.  \n\n\n\nThis event is aimed at anyone working in primary care who recognises the need to know some dermatology\, but frankly just isn’t particularly keen on it!

SUMMARY:When COPD and Type 2 Diabetes Co-exist: Risks\, Management and Challenges
DESCRIPTION:This session examines type 2 diabetes as a major co-morbidity in people with COPD\, focusing on the bidirectional impact each condition has on morbidity\, mortality\, and quality of life. \n\n\n\nWe’ll explore shared risk factors\, the role of systemic inflammation\, and how COPD treatments—particularly corticosteroids—affect glycaemic control. \n\n\n\nThe session will provide practical\, primary-care-focused guidance on conducting holistic reviews\, adjusting diabetes therapy in patients with respiratory disease\, preventing exacerbations\, and minimising treatment burden. \n\n\n\nCase-based discussions will highlight real-world strategies for coordinating care\, supporting self-management\, and reducing unplanned admissions. \n\n\n\nSpeaker: Tracy Kirk – Director of Education at the Primary Care Respiratory Training Centre.
